When to change pillows?

Dream Supreme Plus 100% Gel Fiber Filled Standard Pillows, Set of 2When to change bed pillows had been in my head way back when I knew that there are stuffs that needs to be replace in time.  Its just that, I always missed to check about it.  Haiz!  At last,  now I know the answer to my overdue question.

According to:
  • www.today.msnbc.msn.com
Reduce allergies: Replace pillows every year
Hair and body oils will have soaked into a pillow's fabric and stuffing after a year of nightly use, making it a breeding ground for odor-causing bacteria and allergy-triggering dust mites. Using protectors can double the life of your pillows.

Representatives for the Martex Company, a bedding manufacturer, suggest that allergens such as dust mites, bacteria, mold and mildew, along with human factors such as perspiration and drool, can cause pillows to become unhealthy in two to three years. Allergens can be somewhat eliminated by tossing pillows in a clothes dryer set on a high temperature and adding a tennis ball or two to effectively fluff them. Some Poly-Fil pillows may be washed, but unless they are fairly pricey ones, they don't withstand more than one or two washings. Martex scientists recommend replacing bed pillows every two years.

Changing pillows would be our next project.  I hope we can change it very very soon and would include it on my anniversary checklists ;-)  Btw, I would schedule it every 2 years :P

Sinupret Kids Syrup

My son's health got worst when he started going to nursery this year.  After school, he arrived having colds and worst fever.  I was really anxious cos my kids haven't gone anywhere when school started.  From school we go home straight and even don't go out during weekend.  I even told his teacher about my son's case.  During those times, we didn't missed to consult doctor.  Doctors always says it's viral!  Would you believe my son having colds, cough and fever almost every other week and often less than a week!!  My son probably attended only a total of one month of school days during the first quarter of this year.  So frustrating!

By the way, we stopped seeing doctors end of February and had it my way!! Tried over the counter herbal meds and it worked fine.  I tried this Sinupret Sinus & Immune for Kids, Syrup 3.38 fl oz (100 ml). The good thing, Sinupret is a herbal relief for sinusitis. Visit site for more details.  My kids took the med early this month for at least a week and it worked well.  Like my son, he got a terrible colds on day one, I gave him the syrup.  Then next day it was gone.  But still, there were days that both my kids got colds but not bad as before.  After the medication, my kids improved.  I highly recommend this product!!

Dust Bunny

 I just learned that the annoying combi of stuffs like dust, dirt, hair, fur, insects, fabrics and the like that we see in corners of our house, hiding in corners of walls and furnitures, electronics, and anywhere are called dust bunnies (plural form, comes in group).  We noticed them, when we do general cleaning.  It builds up in places we don't regularly clean.

So it's so important to do general cleaning once a week or twice a month haha :-P.  Better when hubby has no work so he can help you carry things that you can't move or reach to get all those evil dusty bunnies hiding in your home ;-)

Allergy-Proof your Home

My kids have allergies and if not attended, it eventually leads to asthma.  It has been like our endless combat towards healthy living for our children.  I feel so helpless everytime it happens.  Even when I knew what triggers them I still feel miserable.  Going to clinic and taking all medicines given,  would only help for a very short time.  On a side note,  I made a lists from every doctors we've consulted about their suggestions on allergy-proofing our home.
  1. Change beddings once a week;
  2. Use mold and dust free cover and pillows;
  3. Clean floor everyday with dump cloth;
  4. Vaccuum (with HEPA filter) at least once a week;
  5. Wipe surfaces, furnitures, etc with dump cloth at least once a week and never use feather dusters;
  6. No to furry stuffed toys, choose washable cloth like stuffed toys and wash it regularly like twice a month;
  7. No to pets and avoid contact to pets (Blaze found another home);
  8. No smoking.  Never allow relatives and visitors to smoke at your home and premises; and
  9. Change and wash cloth upholstered furnitures regularly (once a month).
I just found very helpful tips related to allergy-proofing home.
